No dive into Bangkok would be complete without splashing around in the high-society deep end. Homegrown scents specialist Karmakamet opened a restaurant, Karmakamet Diner, a few years ago that plays clubhouse for the city’s elite. Join them for brunch. Venture to the emerging Em District, duck behind the Emporium building and down a tree-shrouded alley to reach the steel and glass café. The light-flooded space is reminiscent of a green house with interiors straight out of a colonial-era apothecary— a nod to the eponymous line of perfumes, incense, and candles. The menu is as intoxicating as their potions. Dig a fork into the savory-sweet pancakes piled high with bacon and served with a side of duck confit or the spicy pasta topped with lumps of fresh crabmeat. Save room for dessert and try the strawberry shortcake crowned with a cotton candy orb that’s almost too pretty to eat. Almost. On your way out, stop by their boutique to stock up on hand-poured candles and lush lotions.
