Soi 11, one of the city’s most infamous streets is constantly reinventing itself, and always worth a peek—if you know where to go. Mix with a cross-section of the city at Cheap Charlie’s, Bangkok’s most lovable dive bar. Looking more like it belongs in the Bayou than Bangkok, this is the post-work rendezvous spot for expats and locals alike. When nature calls, it’s time to go (trust us). Head up the block for friendly Thai home cooking at Rosabieng. Request a table in the garden to hear the live band play pop classics as you dine on chili-curry clams and stir-fried morning glory. After dinner, get down to live Chicago-style blues at Apoteka, where bands jam nightly (with no charge). Cap the evening with a panoramic skyline view at the open-air Above 11 lounge. Most people never make it beyond the first floor, but scope out the second floor for true show-stopping vistas. Here you’ll find a gate that looks off-limits, but push on: it leads to the secret rooftop garden. This aerie, called Gramercy Park, is only for those in the know—just like its New York namesake.
Hop the BTS to Nana. Cheap Charlie’s, Rosabieng and Apoteka are along Soi 11. From Apoteka, cross the street and walk north to the Frasers Suites tower; head around the back to what looks like the parking lot to find the hidden elevator entrance for Above 11.
